Hi All,

A couple of years I ago I installed the ice maker Y kit and RTV sealed the compartment - per the talk from Samsung at the time.

I've been using a hair dryer on it since then - every 3 months or so - when it ices up too bad to work.

Is there are final, no kidding solution, yet? I would happily replace everything if that is what is needed - just to stop wasting time standing there with the hair dryer!

Thanks!

So, no quick answers which could be good or bad :)

Apparently, the repair is now not just resealing the ice area, nor resealing and adding the Y clips, or both of those and a new ice maker - it is all that PLUS a new control board (printed circuit board - PCB).

Several videos from repair guys and even from Samsung - watching several is probably a good idea since Samsung's was corporate - ya know, where everything is easy - which it isn't!

I needed the model number, and the 8th and 9th digits from the serial number which show production date - in order to ensure the correct kit - here's a link to codes - https://www.electrical-forensics.com/MajorAppliances/SamsungDateCodes.html. Mine was "HA" (yeah - sort of what Samsung says when you ask them to fix their crappy refrigerators) which crossed to 2016 and October. The kit I found is: DA82-02673A and is available from Samsung (usually ships in 4-6 weeks), or several suppliers (MUCH more quickly). Some suppliers note this kit fits: GC to KC date codes which translate to 2015 December to 2018 December.

Here's the Samsung video - https://samsungpartsusa.com/pages/videos

Haven't ordered or installed, yet ... so, don't know if it will actually fit this piece of crap appliance. Now, this said, it is built out of really nice stuff - the back is a case in point - none of the usual American cardboard covering things ... nice aluminum panels with screws ... pretty easily accessible PCB and condenser and components, as well. Beautiful - but it doesn't work ... sigh.

Hope this helps others.
