It's an LG with a cracked cook top - I wonder...

Lately I feel like an appliance repair guy myself. A GE fridge, a Maytag washer, a water heater and now our stove top.

We have an LG free standing electric range with a glass cook top. My wife put a hot lid over an eye that was not on to stir something, and the glass under the lid cracked. The lid was very warm and wet with condensation from the pot it had been sitting on. Is this a common way to crack a glass cook top? Evidently this thing is warranted for 5 years, so now we're trying to track down someone who can fix it... just wondering about how it came to be.

Thanks,
Carlton
