• ** REMEMBER! **The microwave can still shock you even unplugged!!

ALWAYS discharge the high-voltage capacitor first if you even think your hands will come close to any HIGH VOLTAGE components.

Jeff mentions this: Anything in the high voltage ( magnetron, capacitor, diode, wires to and from ):
...Use a metal ( not the shiny chrome type ) screw driver with a insulated handle to short across ( touch both at the same time ) the terminals of the high voltage capacitor to discharge it.

Hey all, looking for help on understanding what is going on here. I have the tray style Sharp built in microwave. My daughter was heating some soup and it quit working in the middle of heating. I notice that when I manually open the tray the power goes on and off and I can hear some sort of switch/solenoid/thingamjig click on when the power/lights come on, otherwise it does nothing.

I am just wondering if something has worn out, maybe some sort of connector as power goes on for a split second when manually opening/closing the door. In the counter window the work "enjoy" pops up just for a second. I am finding the word "enjoy" to be ironic.

Help I hate cold coffee

Hi Alvi, It sounds like a door (drawer) switch issue but it could be a loose wire so you'll need to check each one. Make sure they are all tight and none of the pins are starting to back out of the connectors. Check the door switches for continuity by opening and closing the drawer.
