KitchenAid
Age
1-5 years
Dishwasher 2.5 years old.
Started throwing error F8E4 yesterday so we realized there was water in the drip tray, cleared it out, then it was fine.
Today, started throwing error code F1 E9 however it appears to be draining fine. If I run the normal cycle, it cycles through and drains, however the dishes appear to not be washed at all. Seems like it is just filling the washer and draining periodically during the whole cycle.

Tried to run the diagnostic mode to see what is wrong, I get the panel to light up after the 1-2-3, 1-2-3, 1-2-3 sequence, then I close door. It starts to run things in there and displays the number 1, a few mins after displays 2, then all the way through 7. Then it goes completely dark and nothing.
Am I running the diagnostic mode incorrectly?

I posted the tech. data sheet for your model in this thread:

Do you hear the wash(circulation) motor humming or buzzing like its trying to start washing?
Look at this thread:

Then see if you can locate the leak, like in this thread:

Just to add, I ran the diagnostic mode and it threw the error F9E1, F7E1, F8E4, FAE2. Is it most likely the wash motor assembly?

Also, on another note, any dishwasher brands you recommend? We bought all new appliances in the last 2.5 years and 3 out of 5 or 60% of them all have had issues so far. Maytag washer (mother board issues twice, third issue leaked so we replaced with Electrolux), KitchenAid dishwasher and Cafe fridge ice maker broke.
Any brands that don’t break if we decide to just replace the KitchenAid dishwasher?

Its very unusual to have that many error codes.

Get into the diagnostics and clear all your error codes, then try to run another cycle with no dishes in it.

It should fill with water, then the wash motor should come on. Do you hear the wash motor running after it fills? You should hear water splashing in the tub.

Maytag Dishwashers are very good. I bought a new Maytag Dishwasher in 2014 and its in my kitchen now, and not a single problem ever with it.

Took it all apart and saw this. Looks like the filter exploded in the wash motor

Excellent, good find! Yes the filter inside that pump chamber is broken and not allowing the motor to run, here's the filter part number: W11643383

Here's the dishwasher wash(circulation) motor for your model, which comes with the new filter already installed for you:
Pump Assembly W11414076

Its in-stock currently here too: Base-Pump W11414076

For others following your thread--->The service manual https://drive.google.com/file/d/16JlVUq65LUiZdSpsIJJqAnEAS7sDAYHL/view?usp=sharing shows you how to access those parts. Disconnect power to your dishwasher. Then you will need to remove the dishwasher from underneath your cabinet to access those parts.
