Our KitchenAid dishwasher is a smidge over 2 yrs old. A few months ago we noticed the dishwasher wasn't cleaning the dishes, detergent wasn't getting dissolved, and after listening during a wash cycle realized the spray arms weren't spinning during the cycle. Tried running in diagnostic mode and it didn't give an error codes. When we let it try running a regular wash cycle the machine would let water in, eventually drain, all the stuff it normally does, then play its proud little tune announcing that it had finished the cycle and the "clean" light would come on. It thought it was cleaning the dishes like it should but alas, no water going through spray arms means dishes weren't actually clean.

We were told it was more than likely the circulation pump or motor, might as well replace the whole sump, pump and motor assembly. (We've replaced this assembly in our previous Whirlpool dishwasher and it was pretty easy.)

Finally got the part (W11416362) but videos I've found for replacing the "pump & motor assembly" don't include replacing the sump. We were told replacing the full assembly with sump is easier than just pump & motor. This was the case with our previous dishwasher so we believed that would be the case here as well.

Anyone have a link to a video showing the full replacement with sump? Or will it be fairly straightforward once we flip the machine? I already have all the screws removed from the sump inside the machine.

Thank you for that manual!

Really dumb question now. The "pump" in the "pump and motor assembly" is the drain pump? For some reason I thought the pump here pumped water into the sprayer arms and there was a separate pump to drain the machine.

We replaced the drain pump last summer because the machine wasn't draining and was giving a drain something error code.

Once the drain pump was replaced the machine went back to working great for a couple months then the sprayer arms stopped spraying. If the pump in this part is the drain pump, I'm now concerned that this part won't fix our problem.

The pump and motor assembly is the wash(circulation) motor, not the drain pump.:)

That's what I thought but the description in the manual being "drain pump and motor assembly" made me wonder. The picture of the new filtration system at the beginning of the service manual was a little 🤔 too. Kinda looks like it was showing that the pump somehow does double duty.

Anyway. Got the new sump/pump/motor assembly installed this morning. Husband says this part was MUCH easier to replace than the drain pump was (replaced that in July 2022). Loaded the machine about half full with dishes and ran a cycle as a test and all looks good! Spray arms spray, dishes are clean and dry, and no leaks!!

The curiosity on this was still itching at me. We happened to have the old drain pump sitting around still so I compared it to the part on the new pump and motor assembly. Sure enough, it's the same part number. Unless the machine uses the same part in two different places, it seems like the drain pump is part of this pump and motor assembly. 🤷🏼‍♀️
If this machine uses the same pump for draining and circulation though (I realize that sounds incredibly odd), it doesn't make a whole lot of sense that our machine was still able to drain but wasn't spraying water through the sprayer arms. Or does it? I don't know. Part is replaced and it works now. Maybe I shouldn't question the "why" anymore. 😂

Thanks for the update!

Yes, it can still drain because the drain pump is attached to the sump, but runs on its own circuit per the control board.:)
