The washer filled just fine but as soon as the water shut off, it kind of "grunted" then made a humming sound as if it's trying to agitate but nothing happens. If I leave it plugged in it will periodically hum/tick few seconds before going completely quiet again. I've tried switching to rinse, spin, etc but I'm getting nothing.

So now I have a full load of laundry filled with water and don't have a clue what to do.. so I guess I have a couple questions...

1.) What are the possible causes? (obviously)
2.) How do I fix it?
2.) How do I go about draining the water manually?
3.) Would it be worth even repairing at all considering it's over 25yrs old?

Hi, If you put the washer in drain/spin cycle will it at least drain the water out, or does it still hum?

Possibly something is jammed/stuck in the water pump causing that motor buzzing/humming sound. Remove the 2 rubber hoses to the water pump and get a flashlight and look inside it.

Unplug your machine first!

Here's the water pump for your model:

Here's the video on how to access it:

Getting the water pump out without flooding your house.

I use a pinch off tool, you can buy it at Sears:

You pinch the tub-to-pump rubber hose off.

Keep us posted.

No, I've tried every cycle. No response whatsoever aside from a low hum lasting 5-10 seconds that occurs every several minutes before going completely silent again. At first I could hear the timer ticking but now I don't even hear that.

One thing I did notice is that the agitator will spin freely in one direction like normal, but in the opposite direction it won't budge when I try to twist it. I twisted a bit harder and it kind of clicked/grinded an inch or so... Not sure if that's relevant but I figured I didn't include that information.

Also I attached another picture showing directly underneath the washer tub.. there is this foam belt looking thing that's all twisted and just generally doesn't look right. Could the problem have anything to do with that?

***FYI - I am completely clueless when it comes to any appliance repairs/parts or how they work***

So in summary, it filled normally, then when the water cut off instead of agitating it just hummed as if it were trying but nothing was happening. Now it is unresponsive no matter what cycle it is in.

As you can see in the third picture here, I have managed to take the outside cover off so this is where I'm at right now.

Will removing the rubber hoses to the water pump to check for clogs cause all the water to flood out?

Removing the hoses, then removing the water pump, then you check if something is stuck/jammed in the water pump, I'd do that first.
