Kenmore Dryer 110.96586400

Dryer is about 15yrs old (I think) and the heat stopped working. Ordered the usual replacement parts
  • Heating element
  • Cycling Thermostat (4 prong)
  • High limit thermostat (2 prong)
  • Thermal fuse (long and narrow, 2 prong)
  • Thermal fuse (short and round, 2 prong)
The high limit thermostat came with a jumper. However, when I opened up the dryer, I found the existing wiring does not use a jumper. Instead, it has four wires. Two wires go to prongs on the heating element, the other two wires go to the existing high limit thermostat.
  1. For the new high limit thermostat, do I need to use same wire setup as existing (4 wires and no jumper) as shown below?
  2. Or do I need to use the jumper that came with my new high limit thermostat? If I use the jumper, what happens with the extra wire that would be left over on the existing dryer?
Existing wiring setup for high limit thermostat with four wires and no jumper.
