Hi! I was wondering if anyone could help with a consistent thumping noise from the dryer. Turning the dryer by hand also produces this thumping noise very consistently.

Model No: kenmore 417.88042700

I have little experience fixing appliances/electronics and I'm not sure I'll be able to identify a problem/broken part even if there is one.

Thanks in advance for the help!

Thank you for the help!

I removed the top panel and saw this was loose. Any idea what this is for? Removed it since it didnt seem too stable.

From Ricks links to both of those parts in his post#2, Here is The video to replace the Front Felt Glide Assembly is here: Dryer Glide Pad Replacement

Then there is a video that shows you how to replace the Rear Drum Bearing Kit in Ricks part link to it in post#2 above.

If you've fixed other things around your house, then you should be able to do it.

Is this considered still functional? Still attached but looks misaligned to me and wanted to get a second opinion. Thanks!

It just a felt air seal that is sandwiched between the lint filter housing and the blower housing. I can't see any glides in the second picture

Where in Jersey?

OK, I still don't see any glides so click on the part link in my first post (#2) and see if you have those three glides in the picture.

From Hunterdon County about 30 min outside of Easton.

Oh I see, I don't think there are any glides. However, I haven't found any fallen off glides in the dryer and I've finished taking it completely apart. Is it possible that some dryers don't need the glides?

No, but it's possible they wore out completely and that's what's causing the noise.

I ordered the parts and replaced the drum bearing. Upon replacing the front gliders and reinstalling, it seems like the front won't fit anymore. The front is having an incredibly hard time clipping in. Is it possible the front glider part is too thick and now won't fit into the drum? Also is the front glider supposed to fully fit into the drum so that it isn't visible anymore?

Here are some pictures.

Also, there seems to be a bit of a gap between the glider and the other part on the front. Is this okay?

Thanks again for all the help.

Thanks for the video. I've watched it and tried doing this already but the front doesn't easily snap into place. It seems like the front glider is too thick and won't fit into the drum. Any thoughts on how to proceed?

Here are some more pictures of me trying to attach the front.

Here the front glider is too thick to fit into the drum.

As a result:

The top clips of the front won't reach the clipping hole.

Should I look into buying a thinner front glider?

Those are the correct glides for that machine. Try rotating the drum to work it on.

It seems like the drum itself has glides on the inside of it, wouldn't that mean the front part wouldn't need any glides?

I'll try rotating the drum in the meantime. Thanks!
