I own a Kenmore Elite washer 796.41072.311 that goes through the diagnostic procedure perfectly but when the repairman left we loaded a small load and it will not spin with clothes in the washer.
I ordered the famous ghost (Motor Position sensor) part and this washer has no part in the washer or harness to connect it.
The repairman was very knowledgeable in electronics but failed to repair the washer.
Has anyone got some advice where we go from here?

I couldn't locate the service manual for this model or I could help you. These Kenmore 796 models are by LG, and I have very limited experience working on these.

Hopefully another tech. or member that's seen and fixed this problem can shed some light on it for us.

Thanks for responding. Another Sears repair (Parts Changer) guy shows and checks the readings on the windings. They were fine. He diagnosed I need a new wiring harness and stator. I asked why? Can you show me what the problem is ?
His answer,,,,, "My experience tells me that is what you need. Parts + labor $565.40."
When he left the machine will not go trough the diagnostic cycle like it did before he came.
There is a Tribles Appliance parts just down the road and I am going there and ask for recommendations for service. I have laid down some serious cash there before on a part for a refrigerator with somewhat the same situation. they had two parts that were very similar other than price. Mine cost $110 more than the other one.
I will post any success.

After the second Sears Service call I was told that I needed a stator and wiring harness.
I requested to be shown what was defective.
I was told it was "his experience" that that would fix the machine. He looked at nothing on the machine but the stator and the windings tested within the acceptable range. His estimate was $800 +/-
The next day I went to a repair parts distributor and got a reference for a knowledgeable repairman.
What I have seen is, there are people that know what they get paid to do.
I was told almost immediately I did not need a stator.
And five minutes later the problem was found to be the control board not sending enough power to the motor to spin the washer with a load inside.
The Motor Position Sensor is built into the control board on this washer not on the stator and it is all manufactured in Korea.
The service manual is available but very difficult to read in Korean. My new service man for life had a great sense of humor also.
The part is on order and the repair will be a fraction of Sears estimate.
I only wish I had considered getting a referral first.

Thanks for the updates!

Here's the control board for your model, in case others need it too: Svc Pcb Assembly, onboarding CSP30101413

Let us know how it goes once you get it installed, thanks!
