I have a Kenmore Coldspot 106.58912800. Food in the freezer is slowly melting. Ice is being made very slow and the container that holds it is about 10% filled at most.

My observations so far:
  • I feel cold air being blown in the freezer
  • The compressor is warm/hot to touch
  • The fan next to the compressor is on
  • If I slide the fridge temp slider to left side (warmer) and then back to right side (cooler), something turns off then on respectively
  • If I slide the freezer temp slider to left side (warmer) and then back to right side (cooler), I don't hear anything happen
Any ideas on what else to check or what needs to be fixed?

Ice production is affected by freezer temperature and will likely totally stop if the freezer temperature rises above approx. +15 deg. F.

If the condenser under the fridge is clean and the compressor and all fans (inside and out) are running but the freezer is not cold enough (it should be +2 to -5 deg. F for best ice production), inspecting the frost pattern on the evaporator (aka cooling coil) would be next (see the following link).

Post photos of the frost accumulation on the evaporator before any manual defrosting here for evaluation.

I cleaned out the area around the compressor as well as the behind the bottom front grill of the fridge last night but did not see any improvements after 6 hours. I'll inspect the coils today and report back.
