Kenmore de-humidifier question

115 60Hz 7.3 amps

50 pts per 24 hours

Once turned on the fan runs and it sounds as though the motor/compressor is trying, then quits but the fan continues to run.

Does this mean the compressor is kaputt or a switch needs replaced.

My buddies keep telling me that a dehumidifier is not worth fixing, but this one does not have much time on it.

Thanks

It means the compressor is likely bad, but if you have an ohm meter you can check the compressor start device relay and overload switch thats mounted on the side of the compressor for continuity. Unplug the dehumidifier first.

From the parts diagram it says this is a 1997 model, so if the compressor is bad, it would cost more to have a new compressor installed than its worth.
