I'm trying to figure out what part to replace in my dryer. It has been squealing for a long time and yesterday it stopped near the end of the drying cycle. When I turn the start knob, I hear it humming like it is going to start, but the drum doesn't turn and when I let go of the knob the humming stops.
I tried waiting an hour to see if the motor needed cooling off, but it still doesn't work. I've checked the idler pulley, belt and thermal fuse and all are okay. I can rotate the drum by hand clockwise, but not counterclockwise and it does seem a little stiff to get started. I've cleaned out way too much lint in front of the blower fan (even found a brush in there).
I can't move the blower wheel by hand. It is stuck. I can't find anything that is obstructing it. The blower fan doesn't look cracked or broken. Does this mean I need a new motor? Blower fan? something else? Any help is appreciated.
