KENMORE dryer. 110 7308622 WOZ. 1974 year I think.
Drop down door kept opening on its' own. I bought the part in the door, but it still would not latch shut. I figured the little plastic finger(strike) was worn, so I got akit with two pieces. Door catch for 279570, but the strike will not go into the dryer case and stay in the dryer.
Does this dryer need a special strike because original was plastic? photo shoes old and new parts. any suggestions. Thank you.

It should. It might just be a little collapsed. Try spreading the open end of the strike a bit wider with a flat screwdriver, etc.

Most manufacturers have gone to a metal strike like that and I don't know of any issues using them in place of the plastic ones.

Hi Dan
I bought another kit that has 3 strikes and three latches. The metal strike has ears so it can not be pushed too far into the case, but no ears to prevent it coming out. I tried to bend it very gently and it broke. Shipping is more than parts. Oh well. The Supco parts are junk and advertised as wrong fitment. Lesson learned. Photo is what I have coming. Thanks for your reply.

The striker on the top row, third from the left is the most common type. The one you pictured previously looks the same except one bend on each side appears a little too slight. Two pair of needle nose pliers could probably add a sharper bend at those points but if you have a new one coming...
