6-10 years
My washing machine has treated our family of 7 very well over the past 10 years. However, over the past few weeks the spin cycle has gotten so loud it sound like a jet engine. It seems like it's spinning fine and drying clothe as well as it ever has. We've noticed no burning smell or any other weird symptoms. Any ideas on what I should look for?

Also, if I'm going to take the thing apart to replace something, are there any other parts I should replace, clean, or grease while I'm in there?

Hi,

Yes, you would need 2 new bearings and the bearing seal. Its a big job to do, so allow yourself plenty of time to do it.

Here's the bearings and seal for your model below.

There is a video when you click the tub bearing seal, it will show you how to replace both bearings and the tub bearing seal.

Let us know how it goes if you decide to fix it.

Thanks Jake, that does look like a long job, but a lot better than buying a new washer!

I used the compatibility checker which confirmed that the seal is compatible with my model, but the 2 tub bearings came back not compatible. Should I order them anyway?

That compatibility checker is not always up to date, but they are for your model.

Hey Jake,

I got the parts in and I'm half way into the repair. I've got the new bearing and seals in place and I've reassembled the drum. However, when I was pounding out the bearings the parts in the attached picture fell out. I can tell where the 2 "mushroom" shaped parts go, but I don't know where the "bladed" part (in the middle) goes. Can you like to a picture or video that shows where/how that goes?

Nope, I sure can't, sorry.

Kenmore 796 models are made by LG, I have never replaced the bearings in any LG models before, that's why I can't.

Like I mentioned in post#2--->There is a video when you click the tub bearing seal, it will show you how to replace both bearings and the tub bearing seal.
