Kenmore Elite Upright Freezer (8 years old) Our freezer has the Electronic Control Assembly on the front of the door. Freezer Temp is set for 0 degrees. The problem is that the freezer is continuously running. We assume it is the compressor that is running nonstop. The temperature inside the freezer is staying between -20 to -22 degrees F, which is of course too cold. No other problems detected. Defrost is working fine. We've unplugged the freezer and plugged it back in and it starts up fine and it continues to run nonstop. It sounds fine, actually nice and quiet noise level, it's just keeping the freezer too cold.

Hi, It sounds like the temperature thermistor is possibly the culprit.

You can ohm test the thermistor in a glass of ice water, waiting at least 5 minutes before testing, and it should read about 32.7K ohms. Unplug the freezer before ohm testing it!

Here's the thermistor for your model:
Thermistor 297018400

Video Included in part link that shows you how to access it.

If your thermistor is good, then the culprit is the display touchpad and control board assembly.

Here's the display touchpad and control board assembly for your model:

Make sure you unplug the freezer from the wall outlet before you replace it.

But I was unable to locate a video to replace the control board, but from the rear photo of it below, it looks like it has 4 clips, 2 on each side, so that tells me it just unsnaps to remove it, then snaps back in place to install the new one. You may need a putty knife to pry/unsnap it from the freezer door.

Let us know how it goes.

Jake
