I first noticed the problem when the dryer had been running for hours on auto dry/low heat mode, but the timer knob didnt move at all. The load did dry fine, just never shut off. Further loads however were not drying as well, with the same issue. I put the dryer on timed heat/high heat and the timer ran and ended the cycle but the load didn't dry at all. I'm not sure what the issue is but here are my diagnostic observations so far.

I have ruled out ventilation as I cleared the outlet tube and opened the dryer up and vacuumed all accessible areas out. No obstructions from the outside either.

When I do put one washcloth in the dryer on auto dry, it does dry better, but doesn't fully dry either. However, the auto dry timer does run and shuts off at a normal rate.

When starting a load on auto dry, i am getting heat for about three minutes then shuts off, assuming its up to regular temp. About 45 seconds to a minute later the ignitor rod begins to glow then shuts off with no flame. This pattern happens for about 5 minutes, then I get a flame and heat again for 3 or so minutes. This pattern then continues, but the gap in between getting a flame spreads out to 8 mins, then 10mins, etc. I keep getting the same result, half dried clothes and auto dry never moves. Not sure if the ignitor rod heating up that often without a flame is normal or not.

On timed dry, I'm getting heat/a flame at much bigger intervals, thus the load is not drying.

Any help on what might be the issue would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you, I will pick some up and replace and let you know what happens. I'm pretty sure I can replace these myself but I'm no expert so I just want to make sure, do I need to shut the gas off when replacing these or will unplugging the dryer suffice?

Most people can do this job.

do I need to shut the gas off

Not necessary but a good idea to do so!

will unplugging the dryer suffice

For sure unplug the power!
