FIXED Kenmore Microwave 111.72213810 - So where’s the high voltage capacitor?

I’m hoping someone can offer a suggestion. I have a Kenmore Elite Model 111.72213810 that is literally 1 year and 3 weeks old (ugh!).

I am always striving to learn and id like to see if I can’t fix this one before shelling out 600 for a new built in microwave with trim kit (the model I have is no longer available apparently and of course I can’t reuse the trim kit so there’s another 150+).

I’ve been reading as much as possible and watching countless videos but I cannot figure out where the high voltage capacitor is on this model.

I’m attaching some images that may help. Everything I’ve read said it’s probably the magnetron since it does everything perfectly except there’s no heat at all. Like a 3 minute cycle and water is still cold with zero warmth.

Thank you for any and all advice! It’s amazing how much we rely on microwave in our day to day life!

Ever since microwaves have been made in China they have become throw-away units with few parts available. Since the pandemic began, many microwaves and trim kits have been out of stock. It probably has to do with Chinese manufacturers making chest freezers to keep up with increased demand, and supply problems for certain parts. When I was looking at microwaves recently, I saw the same kind of complaints--that they stop working after a year--for all kinds of brands.

No unfortunately I haven’t. It’s been unplugged for 2 weeks at this point and I took a shot at it being a magnetron that I’ll try to swap in when it arrives at the end of this week.

I just can’t believe the incredibly small number of available options for built in. My cabinet is large but everything seems to be geared towards over the range or countertop.

Before the pandemic there used to be a lot more options, but now there are literally next to none. The problem is that if you buy an other brand with another trim kit, the new one could very well do the same thing again after a year.

I think I know why you can't find the capacitor. You have an inverter microwave, and I don't think they have capacitors. It's like this one: automaticwasher.org/cgi-bin/TD/TD-VIEWTHREAD.cgi?43694

Indeed you are correct! I found a similar part number on eBay that was listed as an “inverter”.

The replacement magnetron worked! Thanks to this incredible resource I was able to fix it myself! Thank you!

The part number for the magnetron you will need to replace (assuming you have the same model that I do) is Toshiba 2M303. Hope that helps.

Yes, it is the same, but they only have a 2M303H, I cannot find the original 2M303

You can’t find parts for Kenmore models with model number, starting with 111 there nothing but throwaway units they are made by Daewoo

they only have a 2M303H, I cannot find the original 2M303

The trailing "H" is supposed to indicate the orientation of the electrical connections and the cooling fins.




All 2M303... tubes should have similar electrical specifications otherwise. As long as the tube has a similar layout any of the tubes marked 2M303... should work. Compare the ones available at the following link to what's currently in use.
