Hi There, I have a 15 yrs old Kenmore Refrigerator Model 253.54662403. Recently, the freezer side started thawing and after I increased the thermostat to the max which is a 9, it worked ok. I reduced it after a few days to 7 and it started thawing again. I increased it to 9 but noticed that the refrigerator side is not as cool as it normally would be. I increased the thermostat for both the freezer and refrigerator to the max 9 but both now not cooling. I checked and the both fans ( the one by the coils and the one inside the freezer were running. The compressor is hot to the touch and the relay clicks once when you plug the cable. What should I do? Thank you in advance for your help!

Unplug the refrigerator from the wall outlet, then remove the compressor start relay, then ohm the two parallel holes in it, you should have 3-12 ohms, if you get no reading then its bad.

Here's the compressor start relay device for this model:

Thank you so much, Jake! I removed it and tested the two parallel poles that the plug connected to and tested the two holes that connected it to the condenser too and in both times the meter didn't change from the "1" it had on. I didn't place the order yet because the relay device I removed didn't look like the one you selected. I'm attaching a photo of the one I removed. I found the one that looks just like it under this part# 513604016. Please let me know how to proceed.

The compressor start relay I posted in post #2 is the correct one for your model.

When we look up parts, we do so by model number of your appliance. The numbers on the part itself are original and get updated through the years.

Thanks again, Jake! I placed the order and will update you once it arrives and I install it. I hope it's the exact fit as I see some reviews about having to do pigtails and things above my paygrade...
All the best!
