My top-loading washing machine makes a rhythmic squeaking noise during the wash cycle. After attempting to isolate the source of the noise, it is definitely coming from the bottom of the drum where the drive belt and motor are located. It is squealing in time with the pulsing of the motor and happens even when the machine isn't loaded.

It does not make this noise during any spin cycle, and I can not replicate the noise by manually turning the agitator. Given all this, I’m assuming the issue is with a brake/clutch, but I would love confirmation before shopping for a replacement. If that is the case, a link to the appropriate part and instructions for replacement would also be appreciated!

Thank you!

Hi, It sounds like the splutch cam. Take the belt off and remove the transmission pulley and remove the plastic cams and see if the teeth are worn down there, If so order and replace that Splutch cam kit.

Here's the splutch cam kit for your model:
W10721967 Splutch Cam Kit

RepairClinic ships to Canada: W10721967

Video included in part link.

You can tilt the machine back to get underneath.

Final update for anyone interested in the future:

After replacing the splutch cam kit as recommended above, the squealing noise has been completely eliminated from the wash cycle. The parts were not too expensive, and the repair process was very easy!
