Kenmore Washer 417.40042990 Spin cycle very loud (no clanging)

My old Sears Kenmore front loader is making a very loud noise on spin. Its like an airplane! No clanging. I called a repairman (did not make a house call) and he said I should buy a new machine.
Thanks for any ideas. We have replaced parts a few times on our own so thought this might be possible. At any rate we've gotten our money's worth out of this washer

Hi,

That jumbo jet taking off sound is usually the rear drum bearing.

So you'd need a new rear outer drum assembly OR the bearings itself.

If you have plenty of time on your hands and up for a challenge then you can follow the steps to replace the bearings alone in our main thread on this issue here: [FIXED] Drum Gasket and Rear Shell Bearings
