Found my KitchenAid Refrigerator not producing Ice one day, Everything else worked fine. Unplugged fridge and plugged back in and still no luck.
Troubleshooting:
1) Ice Level Shutoff - No Red Light on (not sure if this is normal) Replaced both Ice Level Sensor board & Emitter Board - Still not working & Red light from sensor is not on. Once replaced, the Water dispenser and Ice Auger did not work. Took both Emitter and Sensor board out and Water Dispenser and Ice Auger started working again..... (Stumped)
2) Replaced main Control Board at back of Fridge - Still not producing ice but Ice Auger Works and Water Dispenser is dispensing water as normal.
3) Replaced Main User Interface panel (with the main control board as it came as a kit). Did not help
4) Everything seems to be Operating Fine (Fridge is Cold, Freezer is Cold, Water is Dispensing, Ice Auger rotates) But Ice Maker is still not making ice.

Question, How do you know the Ice Level Emitter and Sensor is operating correctly? I'm really stumped here... Jake any idea???

Thank you,

Hi rickgburton, just wanted to confirm, IF I get 120 VAC, then replace the Ice Maker or if I don't get 120 VAC? Thank you!
Also, do you know anything about the Red Emitter light for the Ice Level control? Should it be constantly on until the ice level breaks the plane of the beam?

Thank you again!!

You can check the optics and ice maker in service test mode. Do you have your tech sheet?

OK, Press SW1 and SW2 simultaneously for 3 seconds.
R-displayswitch numbers.jpg

Release both buttons when you hear the CHIME indicator.

Unit must not be in Lockout prior to entering SERVICE DIAGNOSTIC MODE.

The display will show 01 to indicate the control is in step 1 of the diagnostics routine.

Each step must be manually advanced. Press SW5 to move to the next step in the sequence. Press SW4 to back up in the sequence to the previous step.

Each step is displayed in the two digits of the dispenser user interface display.

The step results are displayed in the two digits on dispenser user interface display 2 seconds after the step number is displayed.

An amber order filter light will be shown to designate that the step number is being displayed

A red replace filter light will be shown to designate that the status of the step is being displayed.

Digit 2

NOTE: Harvesting Not Completed does not exit the step, but indicates the timeout of 70 seconds has passed.

Hi Rick, Thank you very much for all that information. Here are the results of the tests:

Test- 02 (Bin Not Full) - This is True
Test 56- E2 (motor lost position) - heard nothing
Test 57 - 20 then 02
Test 59 -10 then 02

Any deductions from the outcomes of these tests. Keeping in mind, Doors were closed the entire time and nothing was ever heard....No motor movement or anything....

Thank you very much for your help!!

A little more info.....the red sensor emitter light for the Ice Level in the Ice Bin is not flashing nor is it on.
When I try the Ice Level Test 15 (as in the above reply labelled 02 - typo, should have said Test 15) with the Ice Level sensor blocked (to simulate a full ice bin, the test result states: 01 (Ice Bin Full) which is true.

When the left (or right) door is opened, the inside cabinet fridge lights come on.....would that not indicate that the switch is working correctly...with correct continuity?
Thanks Rick!!!

No, the door switch is actually two switches. A normally closed switch for the lights, and a normally open switch for the ice maker and optics. The reason I think it's the door switch is the ice maker doesn't get power until the door is closed to keep the ice maker from dumping the ice on the floor when the door is open.

Don't buy it without checking it first. That might not be the problem. I'll look for the tech sheet. SB

That's why I said check it first. Follow the steps in service pointer (low profile ice maker troubleshooting) that bigbuck posted.
