I have the above model Kitchen Aid refrigerator/freezer - it has never been hooked up to a water line, neither for the inside water dispenser nor the ice maker in the freezer...my decision, because if there is ever a leak, I'd have a problem with the apartment below, as well as mine. I also prefer making ice cubes with either bottle or filtered water I filter myself.

I'm wondering if I can physically remove the apparatus in the freezer - that is, the ice maker, in its entirely (or practically its entirety - I can leave the power harness in there). I could certainly use the freezer room. It looks like it's attached to the wall with 2 screws.

Will this in any way affect the performance of the fridge or the freezer - which currently both work very well?

Sure you can remove the ice maker, its very simple. No, it won't affect the performance of the refrigerator or freezer.

Watch this video below, it starts at about the 3:10 mark to remove the ice maker on your model:

Let us know how it goes.
