This error has been happening intermittently over the last couple months. At this point, it's a weekly occurrence. If I power cycle the dishwasher and clear the error code, then run an express wash (possibly a couple), it will usually end up draining and then it's good for several washes.

There doesn't appear to be any kind of blockage in the drain tube or outlet into my garbage disposal, and the filter in the dishwasher is always totally clear. I've tried finding a service manual for my dishwasher, without success. I'm hesitant to start messing with things without some kind of guidance. Any assistance anyone here might be able to provide would be greatly appreciated. The dishwasher is about 1.5 years old. Thanks!

Corrected model number

Nothing pulls up for KDTM604KPSS.

Recheck your model number, read it from the model number tag, which is located inside the door on the tub frame.

Still nothing.

Take a photo of the model number tag and upload it here.

Hi @supagold did you find out the problem? If so what was it? Another person is having this same F9E1.

Thanks!

Unfortunately not yet. We got a service tech sent out from the manufacturer, who showed up while I was at work. He claimed the issue was that the drain hose had shifted and was too low. It worked fine for over a year in that position, but perhaps he's right? It didn't sound implausible. However, we continue to get the error 1-3x/week. I got some C-clamps to fix the hose in position, but I'm not confident that's going to fix the issue. (For what it's worth, clearing the code, then running a drain cycle continues to successfully drain, in every case.)

I'm going to try pulling the pump over the holidays when I get some time.

I have a new KitchenAid KDTM704KPS and just got this F9 E1 signal this morning. It has run a few times without any errors and now this.
It replaced a prior KitchenAid in same position (electrical, hoses, etc) that ran for years without these errors.

Since its brand new, you have a 1 year warranty on it. Its best to contact KitchenAid at 800-422-1230 and they will have a authorized tech to come out to fix it for free.

Hello. I am having the same issue. Model KDTM604KPS0. I have already replaced the drain pump. It worked for 2 washes and is giving the error again. I then took apart the section that the drain pump attaches to and noticed a lot of debris. Cleaned that out. Reinstalled. Still throwing error.

When I try to drain right after error code, you can hear the motor hum but nothing drains.

I wait for maybe 20 minutes (maybe a cooling off period) I try again and it will finally kick on and drain. At the end of my rope with this machine. Guests coming for Christmas. Any help would be appreciated

Sounds like the drain pump you received is defective, if your getting 120 volts to it and nothing is stuck/jammed in it, it should be running and draining. Contact the place you got it from and they should be able to send another one for free.

Here's the drain pump for your model: W11412291

Here's a thread that I discuss this from Last December:

Thanks for your response. It was a debacle getting the part in the first place. The first two were broken where the wiring harness attaches. What I can’t figure out is why it drains sometimes and others times it won’t. I will order another pump.

Yes, sounds like the drain pump is faulty.
