KitchenAid Dishwasher KUDV24SEBL2 heats on dry but not on wash/rinse

I have a very old KUDV24SEBL2. It still runs but recently gets stuck at 42 minutes left, when it's trying to enter the rinse cycle. On this short wash cycle, the wash temp is normal but supposed to have a high temp rinse. It washes right away just fine.

When it's stuck waiting the panel says heating so I'm assuming it's waiting to heat the water. I felt the heating element and it's not on. Eventually it times out and continues.

During the dry cycle the heating element DOES come on, very hot, dries everything normally.

Without knowing anything, would seem like a thermostat but then it does come on during dry. Any ideas of what and how to test before randomly replacing things?

KUDV24SE is a partial model number, we would need the compete model number first. Your missing 3 digits at the end of your model number. The model number tag is located inside the door on the tub frame.

The problem is the control board, but its No Longer Available:

Because if the thermostat and heater were out, it would not heat at all, even in the dry cycle.

Thank you Jake for your reply. I thought we might get lucky and have the thermostat only needed on the wash. Then for the dry, hoped it would go no matter what. But if it's needed for both, I see what you mean, we seem a bit stuck.
