I have a 3 year old Kitchen Aid standalone ice maker that is not adding water to the tray. I ran the service diagnostics and it says that the water level is full in the tray even though there is no water present. How does this unit determine the water level in the tray? Is it a part of the pump. Prior to this the pump was making a loud noise, but not sure if this was due to the tray not having water or not. I have unplugged the unit overnight and the issue still occurs. The tray never fills and nothing occurs within the unit.

Check that the control is turned on.
Check that the water supply is properly connected and turned on.
If the drain cap is loose, water will empty from the water pan, and you will have either thin ice or no ice. Tighten the drain cap.
Clean the drain tube.
Check that there are no kinks in the drain line.
