I have a Kitchenaid KDFE104DSS0. Hasn't been drying properly for a few weeks, although we only just noticed.

The heat dry button beeps, but the light for that button does not light up.

Did self diagnostic and got the code 7 - 1

I have tested the heating element and I am getting 12 ohms.

I have tested the thermostat and I am getting continuity at room temperature. I have-not tested the thermostat at high heat levels.

Could it be the circulation pump? How can I test?

Is there a heating element relay I can check?

If not those things, it may be a control board?

Thank you.

OK, I replaced the Control Board, but the Heat Dry light still will not light up.

Diagnostic mode reports back no errors. The heating element was hot after running through the cycles.

Is it possible that the water is heating during the wash cycle but heat dry isn't on and I don't know it because the light isn't on. Heat dry button still beeps just no light.

To be honest, I'm not sure if the wash cycle not heating enough is my issue, or just heat dry not working.

My symptoms were dishes not getting as clean as before. Soap residue on dishes after wash. Mold starting to form on dishwasher rack parts.

I'm not sure what troubleshooting I should do next?

Thank you.

Ok, yes that is possible. But is the heating element HOT in the dry cycle? If not, it could be a short in the control panel(keypad and console) for that heat dry button.

Do this below:
- Unplug dishwasher or disconnect power.
- Disassemble door and disconnect keypad connection from control board or LCD display module.
- Verify all other connections to control board are made.
- Reassemble door, but do not close door.
- Plug in dishwasher or reconnect power.
- Wait at least 7 seconds for control board to power up completely.
- Close dishwasher door and monitor control board response:
A. If control board is OK (no longer sees stuck keys with keypad unplugged), it will respond by turning on the drain motor for 2 minutes. Replace keypad and console.
B. If control board is not OK (still sees stuck keys with keypad unplugged), it will not turn on drain motor. Wait for at least 10 seconds. If there is still no drain response, then replace control board or LCD display module (whichever one the keypad was connected to).

Here's the control panel(keypad and console) for your model, if needed:

But you may have another problem since you mentioned the soap residue on dishes is not dissolving.

After it fills with water do you hear the wash motor running and water splashing inside the tub?

Here's the wash motor for your model, if needed:
