I purchase a brand new KitchenAid dishwasher KDTE234GPS0 in Feb 2020. The motor just failed last week in Jan 2023. I've purchased probably 3 new KitchenAid dishwashers in the past 15 years since we moved a lot. I can't believe this one failed within 3 years! We also got a new Kitchenaid fridge and double-oven at the same time, so I am a bit upset that Kitchenaid has gone downhill so fast. Hopefully nothing else breaks.

I knew it was the motor b/c I could hear it click but not spin. I got a 4-3 diagnostic code to confirm this. Of course, there is only a 1-yr warranty on it so I'm way passed the warranty period.

Repair company wants $129 to come out to diagnose, then charge parts and labor to replace it. I actually was able to remove the old motor to give it a good cleaning, but it still doesn't work. My question is, is it worth paying $200 for a new motor and hoping I don't have to replace the control board also? I've on hold with Kitchenaid for hours, so I know I wouldn't get any help from them. A new LG dishwasher is about $600, so thinking just to get something cheap next time around since it seems like these dishwashers are now lasting 3 years or so only.

What are your experience? I've read a few people said a new motor doesn't fix the issue, but it worked for a few people. I am reluctant to order a new motor until I see what has worked for others.

It's usually the wash motor, this has become a common problem as of late, many members here have reported the same. In fact I had 2 in Sept. 2018 in Parker, Arizona that did the exact same thing, and the new wash motor fixed them both.:)

I'd first check to see if your getting 120 volts to the wash motor when it should be in the wash cycle.

Take the wire connector off the wash motor and use your multimeter to see if yours is getting 120 volts when it should be washing, if so and it's not running order the wash motor below.

When I start any cycle on my KDTE234GPS0, the washer first drains for a few seconds then begins filling. After that it simply remains quiet. After some time it drains and goes into the dry mode. But it never circulates water to clean the dishes. Is this motor used for draining?

No, that would be the wash(circulation) motor.

I posted it in post #2 above.
