I have a Kitchenaid KDTM404K that's about 2.5 years old that's giving a 9-1 code (not draining). I had this fixed under warranty with a new drain pump after about 11 months. A year later, at 23 months, it happened again and a new drain pump seemed to fix it. It's occurring once again about 4 months later (intermittently at first, more consistently now).

I get the error when running a full cycle. After the error, I can immediately drain using the "cancel" function, and then it works fine on a "rinse only" cycle to make sure the dishes are clear of soap.

I can't imagine the drain pump is bad again, given that it works on the rinse-only and cancel (drain) functions.

Is there something else that could be failing? I have confirmed there are no kinks, blockages, etc. This dishwasher has been super frustrating. I also had the seals for the heating element go out, which leaked water through the floor into my lower level. Last Kitchenaid appliance I buy.

Thanks for any ideas anyone has!

That's very odd, possibly too many suds in the drain pump during the regular wash cycle, thus the suds are interfering in properly draining, since rinse drains fine.

When its washing in the regular cycle open the door and see if your getting lots of suds in the water.
