Hello. To be honest, we've had issues with this unit making ice consistently since we purchased it new, approximately 3 years ago. It seems to work okay for a while, then will stop making ice for no apparent reason. It will occasionally just start making ice again on it's own! Several tech visits, while it was under warranty, didn't reveal the issue. We were told that units with ice makers in the door are problematic in general, and that all they could recommend was to lower the temperature in the freezer to make sure it was cold enough to operate properly. The freezer is currently set to -5 degrees, and the fridge is at 34. I haven't measured the actual temps for either, but things in the fridge are cold, and items in the freezer are frozen solid. And I can manually make ice, see below.

Using the tech sheet, I've performed these diagnostic tests, with the following results:

Service Test 56 - E0 = No errors
Service Test 45 - Tray fills with water
Service Test 57 - Ice freezes, is successfully harvested, returns code 01 when complete.

So basically, if I use tests 45 and 57, I can make ice manually, it just won't do it on it's own.

Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Did the ice maker ever get replaced under warranty?

Sounds like a faulty ice maker if everything else checks good.

They have a new upgraded ice maker for this model: W11579560

Hey Jake,

Thanks for the response. The ice maker was never replaced. Both techs that looked at it suggested lowering the freezer temp to solve the issue, and told us that these models were temper-mental, and would likely just be fussy about making ice.

Is there any other tests you’d recommend running prior to replacing the ice maker? If not, I’ll replace it and report back.

Thanks again, have a great weekend!

Jake, sorry for the tardy response. We were able to find one of the upgraded replacement ice makers you mentioned, and after replacing the faulty unit, we wanted to wait and make sure things were working before posting a reply. Happy to report that they are. The new ice maker started making ice about a day and a half after it was installed, and has been keeping up just fine. Thanks for your help in resolving this issue.

Happy Holidays!

Hi Jake,

I’m having the same issues as LongThought but also can’t get my FC evap fan to run or test using either Service Test 3 or 4.

I believe I’ve read where a blocked/failed evap fan can cause similar problems with ice maker not producing. Would you have a recommendation on how to isolate my problem without replacing both the fan and ice maker? I’m currently running a short defrost cycle to see if that might free up the fan.

Thanks

Do you have the exact same model number KRMF706ESS01 ?

The model number tag located inside the refrigerator section on the upper walls or ceiling.

Update:

I ran the short defrost cycle, Service Test 38, and it appears to have cleared the evap fan issue which, in turn, cleared up the ice maker issue. All good for now. It may have been a one-time humidity overload but I’ll keep an eye on it. Seals all look good.

And, my model is actually KRMF706EBS01. I’m guessing that’s maybe a door configuration difference?

Thanks for your reply Jake!
