Check for any air leaks within the air duct, and evaporator cover assembly. If the evaporator cover is difficult to reassemble, this may indicate that airflow parts are not properly aligned and not sealing properly. Verify Proper door alignment.

Check your serial number for a service flash (#HR60100001-#HR85200001). Check the evap fan motor for proper operation. When the ref section is calling for cooling, the control checks the evaporator for a set temperature. If it's below the set temperature the control turns the fan on for several minutes to make sure the coils are defrosted completely before starting a cooling cycle.
Same problem -- my serial number HR65... falls in the range. How do I get a copy of the service flash. I have one that says prior to HRX40 which I do not understand. Thanks.

Rick has been out sick since Jan.12th with a serious illness, we are hoping and praying for a speedy recovery!

I attached that service bulletin in post #41.

Did anyone figure out how to fix this and what the culprit is? I have the same fridge an issue. Is this something with the bulletin that Kitchenaid will fix for you?

I replaced the thermostat in the refrigerator and completely defrosted the entire unit for a week and so far for two months no issues at all.

Here’s what mine looks like. When people are talking about “air leaks” are they talking around air getting around the edges of this styrofoam piece, or around the plastic that goes over/around it it?

That's what I don't know, I've not run across issue myself as of yet.

Same with mine. More frequent now. maybe 2-3 weeks. Did you get a fix?
I'm not sure if I've broken a rule but I turn off CB, remove the Styrofoam & fan and defrost with a hair dryer which takes about 20-25 min when totally frozen. Then the last two times I have left it as in your photo & just defrosted the visible fins. Takes about 5-10 min and still lasts 2-3 weeks. I have remote reading thermometers that graph the temp over time and the RC drops to 29 initially then back in the 37 range. I don't recall the temp dropping so low when I defrosed the entire evaporator. I suspect the thermistor is still frozen when I do it this way but not sure why the lower RC temps as opposed to thawing the entire evaporator.

So what I did to fix mine and boy it’s worked now is I unplugged and manually defrosted for 2-3 days. During that time I replaced the thermistor part listed above then when I plugged back in I went into the service tech settings and changed auto defrost to manual which then has the fridge defrost every 6 hours which has now fixed the issue. No more frost at all.
