Noticed about a month ago that this 2007 kitchenaid fridge is cycling on and off randomly and now has increased to every minute. Temps being maintained. I have an electrical monitoring system in the house and you can see this voltage drawing pattern clearly. Compressor and fans go off then on. Very noticeable and unusual compared to prior running. Sounds like an abrupt cut off, like a capacitor or sensor tripping from over heating.

Coils are clean.

I have heard about control board issues in other threads that are hard to find. Have also heard of run capacitors needing replacement.

Thoughts?

Hi, that indicates the control board is starting to fail, they don't make that control board anymore, but they make a service kit to replace it with.

Here's the service kit to replace it: Main Control Board W10823803

It comes with instructions on how to do it.

Another member had this same issue and it fixed it:

Thanks Jake.

This morning it seemed that each cycle now was having problems starting the fan and compressor. Like an engine not tuning over. After a while it was able to. Guess I’m concerned that maybe a fan or component is drawing too much and not able to spin up. Hoping this is not a never ending science project.

No, its the main control board that is the culprit, seen this issue many times on my service calls.

Hi, I have almost the exact same model, but mine is a KSCS25FTSS01 I replaced the inverter board (w10629033) today but the same thing is happening. Like Angryguy, my temps are maintained, but I know this fridge isn't working right in this state. Any other ideas?

I also have model KSCS25FTSS01 and started having the same issues a few weeks ago. I unplugged and cleaned it out and when I plugged it back in, I didn't hear the turning on and off noise but heard a beeping noise. Once it got to the right temps, the beeping stopped and the other noise started back. I've had this refrigerator since 2007. I'm hesitant to spend over $300 for the service kit and then find out it's something else. I'm curious what have others done? Repair or replace? Is this part difficult or easy to install?

The beeping happens for me as well. I think it is some sort of "boot up" process on the logic board. After several minutes it stops. It did the same thing when I replaced the board. Crazy that these are doing the same thing around the same time. I bought mine in 2008 and it has worked great up until now.

Yes, its usually the main control board that is failing and causing this problem. Here's a few threads below that confirm this.

In fact, you can unplug the refrigerator and remove the main control board and check for any burnt spots on it.

The service kit comes with instructions on how to do it.
