Just wanted to leave a note here for others and thanks for the forum. Our KFCS22 series KFCS22EVMS7 (French doors with bottom freezer) was not cooling the fridge but the freezer was cold. I am pretty sure the problem is the damper - I pried open the air cover insert/grill and the damper was shut. Pried it open and got things cooling at least temporarily. Ordered new damper assembly. Refrigerator is almost exactly 10 years old.

Yes, look at this thread:

Here's the air damper assembly for your model:

Watch this video to replace it:

Thanks Jake. At least for now the fridge is regulating temperature since I popped the damper open - I've checked on it and seen the damper both open and closed. Still I plan to install the replacement when it arrives. In the recent past I heard some odd noises from the fridge which might have been sounds of the original damper mechanism failing.

Ok, sounds good.

Let us know how it goes when you get the new Damper installed.

Just got the new damper installed which was pretty easy. It seems to be working fine so far.

I had originally ordered the part elsewhere but it was taking forever to ship so I canceled the order. AppliancePartsPros shipped quickly. But the fridge was actually working well for weeks after I pried open the damper door - good temperature regulation and no more weird noise like had developed earlier. Not sure why that was but I wanted to install the new part anyway.

Excellent, glad to hear that.(y)

Thanks for the update!

Usually because that air damper assembly can intermittently stop working, then start working again, its best that you replaced it.:)
