Two weeks ago we noticed that our ice maker was not producing much ice (this is in the top door). I ran all the diagnostics on it and everything passed. Then I noticed that the ice cream in the bottom freezer was not completely frozen and realized we had a bigger problem than a busted ice maker. We admittedly have not checked the temperature of the refrigerator, but it is not obviously warm. Husband checked the freezer evaporator coil this morning and it is so frozen that the insulation will not come off and there is ice coming out from under the insulation (picture attached). He also looked at the control board to see the part number and checked the version it was running (picture of the control board is attached and version is 7.0 per the diagnostic test).
We are defrosting the freezer evaporation coil now (will try to get a picture when insulation is off) and once that is done we will plug it back in (we completed diagnostic test 89 and it stayed on for the 5 minutes). Any chance that the simple defrost will work, or does it sound like we have a bigger problem? What should our next steps be? This is super disappointing considering the refrigerator is only 2 years old. Thanks!
