We've had this refrigerator for about two years. The temperature in the middle of the refrigerator is about 55 degrees. The freezer is working fine.

We had a tech come out and he shotgunned the fix by replacing the control board and UI board. That did not resolve the issue. I'm going to have him come back out but I'd like to be able to discuss this intelligently with him.

I've examined several posts on the board such as:

But they don't seem to fit. I ran the RC Thermistor test and it read 36 and the RC Evaporator Thermistor test read 89. It appears that the fans are not circulating the cold air. I swear that one time before the parts were replaced I opened the refrigerator and the fans were running and the thermometer I placed in the middle of the fridge read lower. That did not last.

Any pointers or suggestions would be welcome.

Thanks,

Jason

Hi Jason,

I found a similar thread here:

You can only get the RC thermistor only when you order the complete evaporator fan motor assembly:

Thanks, Jake. I'll go over that thread and discuss with my tech. I'll update the post if that resolves the issue so we can have another data point.

Good afternoon,

I also have a KRFC704FPS03 that has a cold freezer, good ice, but a warm refrigerator/fresh food area. I just had the main control board and dispenser interface (part # W11533213) replaced with no resolution. Can anyone confirm that the part Cover-Evap W11395558 will likely fix this issue? If so, is it a fairly straightforward plug and play repair. I've had the refrigerator apart several times now to manually defrost the condenser and should be comfortable with most fixes. My local appliance repair person has not been helpful at all. Thanks

Yes, it should.

Look here:

Your model uses that exact same one:

An update. The tech who worked on the refrigerator talked with KitchenAid and KitchenAid said to replace the controller board again. This did not work. The only birght side is that he already had a board in stock so we didn't have to wait for it be shipped.
Are there instructions on how to access the cover-evap? At this point I'm willing to dig into it myself.

Thanks,

Jason

Yes Jason, watch this video: Crisper frame assembly

On page 3-8 here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1iRRnn103aeGMfrJwdW0Qoazg6S6k2qho/view?usp=sharing is the instructions and videos to remove the evaporator cover assembly.

Evaporator Cover Assembly
1. Remove the freezer door.
2. Remove the top pan assembly.
3. Remove the bottom pan assembly.
4. Remove the bracket assembly.
5. Remove the freezer ice maker.
6. Remove the four corner screws on the evaporator cover.
7. Pull the evaporator cover assembly away from the back liner, disconnect the wiring connector, and remove.

Let us know how it goes.

Hold on, that was for the freezer section, my bad.

Refrigerator section access to the refrigerator parts starts on page 3-5 and goes through page 3-7 same service manual.

Yes, the new refrigerator evaporator cover, that comes with the evaporator fan and thermistor should fix it:

Its fixed many others that had this same problem.

Let us know how it goes.

I've got an update. My tech pulled apart the fridge and did indeed find that the thermistor in the Cover-Evap assembly was bad. He actually had one, or one with similar characteristics, in his truck. He replaced the thermistor and the fridge has been holding steady at 37 F for just over a week.

Thanks for all of your help and links, Jake. I really appreciate it.
