Hello, I have a Kitchenaid fridge that is driving me crazy. Every 2 weeks or per month it will quit. The lights do not come on the cooling is not active and there is faint ticking noise. If I flip the breaker and restart it will last another 2 weeks or month before it does this again. Also every 6 months I need to shut things down and take a heat gun to defrost the ice build up on the freezer or less often on the fridge. I relocated the thermistor in the freezer as per the tech bulletin and that helped to lessen my manual defrost job times.

The complete shut down is a new problem that I think might be a control board problem. Am I correct or could there be another problem?

Thank you for any help you can provide.

You're probably correct but I've seen the power board cause this problem before. If you can catch it when it turns off, access the boards on the back of the machine. On the main board check for 120 VAC at P1-1 to P1-2. If the voltage is correct, replace the main board. If the voltage is 0V, replace the power board.

Here's the main board for your model:

Thanks for your help. I will check the next time it goes out. If it turns out to be the control board is it part number 5 or 2 on the diagram? Looks like there are 2 parts listed as control boards.

It's the one in the link I gave you. One is the power board the other is the main board.

I get the power board that is clear. It is listed as part 27 on the diagram. There are 2 control boards listed on the diagram number 5 and number 2. If I have to replace the control board do I need both parts?

Thank you

Ok I am getting my boards mixed up. Number 5 is the control board and number 2 is the power board correct? Do I need to worry about the number 27 board?

My fridge went out again today. I checked the board like you recommended. There is power to the main board, so I replaced that part. I will report back if this solves my issue.

Thanks again for the assistance.

Just wanted to report that the replacement of the main board has fixed my problem. Replacing the board was not difficult only down side was the cost of the new board. The picture bellow shows the back panel area of my fridge.

I replaced the control board (middle panel).

Thank you for helping me solve my issue.
