I have a barely two year old KitchenAid refrigerator of the five drawer persuasion. The first refrigerator delivered two years ago was taken away immediately after the installers plugged it in. The motor was making a horrendous noise and it should’ve been my first warning to back out of everything. However, a replacement was brought to my home shortly there after.

Last month I went into the kitchen at about two in the morning and almost took a digger on the floor. The refrigerator had leaked the entire icemaker all over the kitchen. I called for assistance from our local certified repair company the next day.

I should not have been surprised that when the repair man arrived he informed me that they have had countless issues on this model and frankly other models of KitchenAid refrigerators too. He informed me after calling whirlpool/KitchenAid that I needed to replace one of the drawers that had some type of motherboard that connects to the icemaker etc. He told me that the part alone was almost $700 for the drawer. Ultimately, this would be a $900-$1000 repair job.

The repair man said his advice was to not repair this refrigerator under any circumstances. He told me that I may have thought I was buying an upscale version of whirlpool; however, He made no bones about the fact that these models are garbage and not to waste my money. In fact, he told me he was embarrassed that they even saw kitchenaid products in their store because of these issues.
My certified repair person also informed me that the problem was related to this and other models are well-known to KitchenAid. He suggested that I contact them and try and get it replaced. He had a specific term for that replacement process, but I forget what it was at this time.

I’m really struggling that I have a $4000 plus refrigerator that is only two years old with half of it inoperable. I’m curious if others have had issues with the drawer I am speaking of, which is the drawer that allows you to select between various types of contents you put inside.

Anyone experience similar issues and deal with kitchenaid directly?

Would that be a Buyback, Lemon Rule, or something like that?
That’s exactly how I would term it, but he had another term that seemed either industry or kitchen aid specific. If I can find it, I will repost it for others. Thanks for your reply!
