• ** REMEMBER! **The microwave can still shock you even unplugged!!

ALWAYS discharge the high-voltage capacitor first if you even think your hands will come close to any HIGH VOLTAGE components.

Jeff mentions this: Anything in the high voltage ( magnetron, capacitor, diode, wires to and from ):
...Use a metal ( not the shiny chrome type ) screw driver with a insulated handle to short across ( touch both at the same time ) the terminals of the high voltage capacitor to discharge it.

Part of the LCD display on my microwave is out, making it very difficult to read the numbers. In addition, several of the touch pads left of the display, such as defrost, do not work. I have unplugged the unit, and the display will briefly reset and work, but soon goes back as it was. Is there something I can replace to fix this problem? Regular timed cooking using the dial works fine; it’s just hard to see how much time is on the display.

Your model does have a user interface and separate user interface board. You may want a local pro to come take a look.
