Hello, I have a KitchenAid KRFC704FPS00 that is not maintaining any temperatur in either freezer or refrigerator. There was a neighborhood-wide power outage, and the appliance stopped working.

Front panel lights, side panel display, interior lights all functioning. A tech came out and recommended board replacement, both the Orion board and the GF2. I replaced with new for both. No change in behavior after replacement. I powered the appliance and put a thermometer inside, let sit for 24 hours, stayed at original temperature, about 70 degrees.

With original (old) boards in place, I was able to have the appliance enter diagnostic mode, and run it through the thermistor tests…among others that I now don’t recall.

With the new boards in place, I can run compressor test and evap fan test, both tests operate properly. Interior lights, front panel and side panel lights all work correctly. Still no change in fridge or freezer temperature.

I read a separate thread about programming the boards, but this appliance has no information next to CODE, so boards *should* be plug and play.

I have a technicians manual that shows all diagnostic tests available, so happy to try suggestions as needed.

I’m at a loss on where to go next…?

Ok, if the compressor is running and your getting no cooling at all, that indicates a sealed system problem.

Wait, does the compressor only run in the compressor test? But won't run in normal cool mode?

When the compressor runs in diagnostics mode, does it start getting cold in the freezer?

When I let the compressor run in diagnostic mode, I did not do so long enough to determine if the rc or fc were cold.

I have an update. As I’ve been flummoxed by what appeared to be a (when in diagnostic mode) an appliance that should be able to properly function….I plugged the appliance in, turned the appliance into showroom mode, then out of showroom mode, then back to showroom mode, then back out of showroom mode. Verifying that the showroom indicator turned on, then off, then on, then off. After the last cycle, the compressor started functioning and as of today, the rc and fc have been cooling for 2 days.

This cycling of showroom mode makes no sense to me….why should this somehow make the appliance decide to properly run. I can verify, the indicator for showroom mode (or sabbath mode) were not turned on when the appliance was non-functioning.

Thank you.

That is very odd to me as well.

So you're back in business now?
