Hello my fellow wire nuts!
Maiden post here after being a long time lurker and benefactor of this community.
KitchenAid 5 drawer
Age:
4.5 years(still within sealed system parts and labor warranty)
TLDR(same questions posted at the bottom of this thread):
Questions:
1)If the compressor is running should it be cooling the refrigerator? Or is their some settling in stabilizing duration, if so for how long?
2)Can this refrigerator model properly freeze/cool and defrost with the control board disabled/unplugged? Can it be bypassed?
Here’s the long and short, I had a technician out to diagnose. He said the refrigerator needed either a compressor, evaporator or both(sealed system issue). He noted “Found low amps load due to possible low refrigerant. Possible bad evaporator and compressor”.
So I say to myself time for a new refrigerator, the next morning I awake and grab my fridge file and owners manual and discover the sealed system is still within the 5 year parts and labor warranty.
I call up KitchenAid/whirlpool, confirm the sealed system is still under manufacture warranty and schedule a service call(third party local company).
Two weeks later a young tech appears and becomes infatuated with the deli drawer control board being out re-installs the board which briefly functions again before becoming unresponsive and interfering with light functions again. He then says I can replace, I could care less just leave it unplugged. He then says to give the refrigerator 24 to 48 hours to cool back down.
After 16 hours the air coming out of the fridge freezer duct areas is room temp to warmer despite the compressor being on(it makes noise as though it’s running and the fan runs). Checked and verified with IR thermometer, hand feel, and thermometer in Friedan’s freezer sections.
I call the repair company back and they are telling me to wait 48 hours for the unit to “stabilize”. I contend their has been no drop in temp and the air circulating in the unit is room temperature.
Questions:
1)If the compressor is running should it be cooling the refrigerator? Or is their some settling in stabilizing duration, if so for how long?
2)Can this refrigerator model properly freeze/cool and defrost with the control board disabled/unplugged? Can it be bypassed?
3)Any other suggestions?
Additionally, I attempted to get through to whirlpool field tech support to answer the basic questions offered but was unsuccessful to breach the customer support gate keeper who can read you the owners manual.
Thank you and all the best,
Shane
