hello! I am trying to figure out this part on my KitchenAid 5 door fridge (I can't see a part number actually on it). It making a clicking noise with the water or ice dispenser working, so assuming this is the culprit. Also, is it user serviceable since it has the copper lines going to it?

It, think I found it, the reversing valve? Would anything else cause the clicking?

Yes, that's the 3-way valve(aka reversing valve) Part #: W11429989

Tom had a similar issue and the new main control board fixed it:

Your model uses the exact same control board as his.

Here's the main control board for your model:

I'm having the exact same clicking issue as the original poster with the occasional power loss which requires a hard reset (unplugging for a few minutes) to get it working again. That always seems to get it working properly. The board was replaced once already about 4 years ago. Living in Florida we have constant power outages and spikes which we all know causes all kinds of issues. Would your best guess be a power board replacement again? My model is KRMF706EBS01 and its almost 7 years old.

I'm confused as to why a three way valve would cause clicking when dispensing water or ice????

I think your response is about what the original poster was saying. In my case everything appears to be working normally (including water and Ice) except this reserving diverter valve (same one he has pictured) will randomly start clicking. It goes through a series of clicking then stops and starts again. Sometimes the refrigerator stops working....not cooling, no lights when opening the door...etc. A hard reset has always worked to get it operating again. After reading some other helpful posts on this website I do believe its the main board. Its worth a shot to replace. Waiting to see if anyone else has any ideas.

Yes, they have been having issues with this particular control board which causes this problem.

The new control boards have been updated to prevent this problem.

That I don't know without looking at the original board compared to the new board.

I ordered it from Jake's link above. Got it the next day. The new one shows as Rev F which is the same revision that I have in my refrigerator currently which is almost 5 years old. This will be my 3rd board. But from Jakes post above the Rev might not be the deciding factor. The new board hardware is slightly different in color. Some of the electronics on the old board are orange but on the new board are black. I would have thought the Rev F would tell you if it's the newest board. It's also possible I received new old stock.

Yes, I noticed that too from your photo of it above.

Did the new main control board fix it?

Is the main control board just a regular plug and play part? I am waiting on the part to eventually ship out and was curious.

You'll have to unplug the wire bundles attached to the old card, and reattach to the new one. It's very easy. Take a picture of your card before unplugging the wires so you know where they go on the new card.

Yes, it is. Make sure you unplug your refrigerator first from the wall outlet before you replace it, and yes @BlueSkyPIC is correct, just remove the original wire connectors from the old board and put them in the exact same place on the new board. You can take a photo of the original board first with your phone, in case you forget where they go on the new board.
