I have a KitchenAid KSSO36FTX03 side by side refrigerator, bought new in 2010. I thought I started to hear some unusual higher pitched very quiet sound coming from the refrigerator (I may or may not have). I looked inside, and the control panel, which usually is lit up with stuff including the freezer/refrig temps (0 and 36), would blink about every 10 seconds or so. So I hit the Cooling button to turn it off, and then hit it again to turn it on. Now when I turn it on, all the LEDs come on for about 1/4 second like it's initializing, then everything goes dark/off again on the panel. I tried turning the refrigerator off/on, I tried hitting the Reset button very quickly when I pressed the On-cooling button, but nothing works. I read that doing a reset with turning off the circuit breaker for 5-10 minutes then turning it on might help.

Since, assuming it's off I may lose all our food and freezer items soon, I guess if the power reset does not work I need to call a service person. But I decided to check here to see if there is something else I could try, or if this is a recognizable problem?

Thank you so much for your help/advice!

W10161714A isn't a model number. Read it from the model number tag located inside the refrigerator section on the upper walls or ceiling.

Looks like that 0 is a O KSSO36FTX03 that one works.

Usually when that happens its your control board that is starting to fail.

This is it for your model:

HI everyone and @Jake, so, they ordered the board on Feb 23, after some follow up the service co. parts guy contacted their distributor (Marcone), who on Mar 6 said the ETA was Mar 9; but they expected that date to keep slipping - they have orders for this control board that have not been filled going back to September! So we are going down the path now of getting a new refrigerator/freezer.

The service tech originally said that the factory where these boards were built in Japan was destroyed by a monsoon, and they went a long time without any boards - but at that time, he thought they were getting the boards in again. Apparently not - not sure if that is true or not! But I checked the KitchenAid web site just seeing what side-by-side models they had, and of the 5 models, 4 were out of stock and 1 was very low stock. So KitchenAid must be having supply/parts/suppy chain issues! I am sure we will be staying away from that brand in our new order, as other brands seem to be readily available from checking around places.
