FIXED KSSS42QKW00 Are some air baffles/dampers interchangeable even with different part numbers?

I have a KitchenAid side by side with a broken damper assembly, and the part is completely unavailable. Part #2208904. There are other Whirlpool/Kitchenaid dampers which are available (Part #2221296 and Part #2220377), which look identical to the part I need - they look like they are the same size, same electrical leads and plug, same number on the plastic casing (159A233A). Is it possible these work? If they don't work, what are the variations? What would happen if I put one of these in? Is it possible to modify the electronics to get it to work? I'm pretty desperate. Without this, I can't operate the refrigerator. I can't even find a service to rebuild the one I have. Thanks.

The other ones won't work, take the old one to a local appliance store in your area to see if they have a GEMLINE aftermarket one that would work.

Is it possible to modify the electronics to get it to work?
No, it's not possible to modify it.

Jake, thanks for your response. Can you tell me which aspects of the other part won't work? For example, if it turns out to be the motor, are the motors interchangeable? Is there a cam or thermosensor in these that are interchangeable? Is there a little circuit board I can try to rebuild? I absolutely can't find anything on line (I've looked for weeks), and the service guys who pulled this out (it's at my mom's house -otherwise I would have done it my self) can't find anything. Thanks again.

I have no clue my friend to any of those questions, only the engineers know the specs and unfortunately they are not made public.

As techs we only order the part that the manufacturer list it takes.

SOLVED: I was able to use a Whirlpool part which had the same colored wires coming out of the part in the same order, by just changing out the plug to the original part. The part mechanically consists of a "step" motor and plastic gears which open and close the baffle. There is no other circuitry. Can't be sure this works in all cases, but it did in this case.

Excellent, glad to hear that.(y)

What is the Whirlpool part number you used so others can know too?
