I have a Kitchen Aid under counter ice maker model KUIX505ESS2. Since we bought it it has produced very thin ice. If I set it to “max ice” it works better but only a little. I have seen some posts on this and it seems it might be the inlet valve. Is this correct? Is this easy to replace myself? We have a water softener on the system so it doesn’t get any scale build up.

I'm attaching your tech. data sheet below, on page 3 in diagnostics STEP 10 you can set the ice thickness.

If that does not resolve it, make sure you have at least 30 psi going to the ice maker, if so, then yes, the water inlet valve is usually the culprit for thin ice.

Thank you! I adjusted the thickness to “thick” hopefully it works. I ran the diagnostics and everything else seemed fine.

This did not fix the problem still very thin ice. I guess I need to replace the water inlet valve. Is there anything I need to know before I replace it?

Just what I mentioned above--->If that does not resolve it, make sure you have at least 30 psi going to the ice maker, if so, then yes, the water inlet valve is usually the culprit for thin ice.

The new water inlet valve should fix it.

This may be a dumb question but how do I test the PSI? Is there a tool I need?

Just a PSI water flow meter, any hardware store sells them.

I have over 70PSI is that too high? Im going to order the part today.

Normal is about 40-60 psi. 70 psi is a little higher than normal.

I replaced the the inlet valve, checked PSI, placed setting on thickest ice setting and still thin ice. I think I bought a lemon! All diagnostics check out plenty of water flow. Clean machine and new filter. I’m at a loss. Any further advice? Is it time to throw in the towel??

That's very odd, I don't know what else it could be.

You can contact KitchenAid at 800-422-1230 to come out, or find a local appliance repair shop in your area that specializes in stand alone ice makers.
