I have a 9 year-old Kitchen Aid wine cooler that stopped getting cold enough. (It does cool a little). Looks like the compressor is not running.
I tilted the unit to clean underneath and the compressor came on (makes a “clanging” noise). It turns out that the compressor only runs when the unit is tilted and stops when you try to stand the unit upright.
Time to get a new wine cooler? Is it worth replacing the compressor? Everything else looks good.

The compressor is part of the sealed system. Sealed system repairs are expensive and will often exceed the machines value. Time to get a new one.

Thanks! Just ordered one. Found out that even if I did want to repair it, the parts are not available.

lesson learned! You can buy a wine cooler for $500 or $2500. They all last 8-10 years...
