I have a Maytag dryer, model LDG8616AAE, serial 10773560QY. I just cleaned out my vent pipe and inside the dryer. I removed the 2 rear drum support rollers, cleaned them, lubed the shafts, and reinstalled. The front glides were in great shape. As long as I had it apart, I decided to replace the belt, since it was showing signs of wear and starting to fray a bit. I ordered a new belt and installed it. Now, with clothes in the dryer, the belt is severely slipping. I tried to just put in a couple if items, but still slips. Runs fine with no clothes in it. The belt was orders from Appliance Parts Pros, and was an OEM belt. I made sure the drum was clean where the belt rides. The old belt did not slip. Any suggestions?? TIA.

Installed the belt flat to the drum?

Thanks. I made sure that the belt is flat on the drum and not twisted. Also made sure the flat side, not the grooved side, of the belt was against the drum. The belt is the same number as in the picture. And the belt is routed exactly as in the picture. This may be a dumb question, but could the motor be running backwards?? My drum spins clockwise.

That would normally only happen if someone installed an incorrect motor. If you are getting lots of air flow out the exit of the dryer, the motor is likely going in the correct direction.

Make sure the belt is not slipping into the groove on the drum, this puts slack on the belt.

I checked to make sure the belt did not slip into that depression. It did not. I do have plenty of airflow through the exhaust. It appears that the drum where the belt rides on is very smooth, and the back of the belt is also very smooth.

Just in case the belt was made wrong....maybe sent it back for a replacement to be safe.

Ok, I can try that. I don’t have the original package, but I’ll call them. Thanks for all of the help!

Thanks for the suggestion. Yes, the drum turns very easy. I made sure the felt was not binding and was positioned properly. The 2 back drum rollers were removed, cleaned, lubricated and reinstalled. They spin freely. The front glides are in great shape. I even reassembled the unit without the belt on and checked to see how easy the drum would spin. Absolutely no binding throughout the entire rotation.

Absolutely no binding throughout the entire rotation.

I can't think of anything else if the belt is routed around the idler pulley correctly.

Let us know when you get to the bottom of it.

I’ll keep everyone updated. I’m going to take Jeff’s suggestion and try to exchange the belt. Thanks to everyone for the help!

I called Appliance Parts Pros where I bought the belt and they had me go through some troubleshooting. Pretty much the same as what I was told to do on this forum. After some discussion, I was able to convince them to send me a new belt. Once I received it, I installed the new belt. Dryer is working perfect with the new belt and no slipping whatsoever! Visually, the slipping belt looked fine, but there must have been something to cause it to slip. Thanks to everyone for all of the help!
