I recently replaced the belt on a 1990's Maytag gas dryer. I'm pretty sure I did it correctly, but the belt as it leaves the idler pulley is rubbing on the motor pulley, as shown in the photo. I replaced the rollers, but that didn't make a difference (photo was taken after the new rollers were installed). The drum turns, but there's a squeaking noise, and I suspect the belt will quickly wear out. The belt is brand new and marked as an OEM part, so it shouldn't be stretched out. Any ideas or suggestions would be welcome.

Hi,

ldrm-belt-idler.jpg

Belt should be drive belt WPY312959.
Flat side to the drum.
Make sure the belt has not slipped into the groove on the drum as that will put slack on the belt.

Thank you! I had the right part and the right side down, but I did have it in the groove -- I guess I assumed that was what the groove was for. With the belt out of the groove it looks like your picture (though not as clean) and is no longer rubbing.

Many thanks for the assistance.
