I have a LG LFX25980ST. The ice maker stopped producing ice. So i went ahead and replaced the entire ice maker unit.
Now the new ice maker is making ice but not dropping it in the canniser. It only drops the ice when i run the manual test mode by holding the size button for about 10 seconds.
After test mode, ice drops, and water refills. The water freezes quite quickly, but it never drops the ice automatically.

Just for the heck of it i pulled the fridge out (which is not easy in my place) and cleaned the coils thorohgly. Some dust was visible, but not that bad. Now its completely clean.
The temp for the freezer is set to -6f. Fridge is set to 33f.
I did put a thermometer in the fridge and freezer sections. My fridge is setting just about to the set temp. The freezer i did not see below 15f.
Not sure if this is normal or not.

Im afraid if it comes down to it being a bad compressor its time for a new fridge. I am praying its not time.

Any ideas on what i should check next?

Yes, that sounds like the problem, it needs to be 10 degrees or lower at all times for the ice maker to drop the ice on its own, normal would be 0 degrees F in the freezer.

Do you notice any frost build up on the back panel inside the freezer?

Here's the parts diagram for your model: LG Refrigerator LFX25980ST / ASTCLGA Repair Parts

I was able to fix the problem myself.
It was a 3 part fix.
After doing a fridge reset I noticed FF error. It only came up after a forced reset.
So I replaced the freezer condenser fan.
Since I already had it all open I went ahead and replaced the blower.
And I also added Freon since it read negative pressure.

Now it’s running exactly at the temps set and the ice maker is working great.

Good job, glad to hear that.(y)

Thanks for the update!

Ive had to replace the main board on this fridge about a year ago.
Im not a professional repairman. But i am a home owner. Ive fixed many appliances :)

Either way this fridge is aging. And im sure something else will fail soon enough. So i decided to get a new fridge anyway. And this one will be my garage fridge.
