Hi. Our LG oven model LSC5683WS has been significantly overheating and burning food and triggering smoke detectors. I used a laser temp gauge to measure hot spots. Wow some spots are over 550 degrees up to 700 degrees in areas when set to only 350 on regular BAKE (convection not used).

It is intermittent, sometimes it seems to be "good enough" , other times will burn everything rapidly. We are not talking about a minor fluctuation here. Oddly there was a time where preheat to just 350 took forever.

Thermostat measures 1095 ohms at room temp, seems good. Display looks normal. Oven is in original place from when it was purchased, clean and moderately used. Would the relay board be the suspected faulty component? Much appreciated!

Hi,

The problem child on these LG ranges that the bake element won't come on, or won't turn off(thus overheating), has mainly been a faulty relay board.

Here's the oven relay board for your model you can order:
Relay Board 6871W1N012A

Well...(drum roll)... issue resolved! Part arrived from LG Canada in a touchLess manner sans-Covid. Installed it carefully, note the crimped wire ends need to be re-crimped because after removal they are loose.
The relay board looks similar but clearly it has been updated, different colour, newer label style and parts. I am hoping this is a higher-quality re-engineered part that is no longer prone to failure.

Tested oven preheat, regular oven and convection bake. Seems good, temperature at back of oven reads close to setting based on my laser thermometer.
Thanks for your help Jake!
