Our LG front loading washing machine (WM2455H) is making this high pitched noise at the beginning of a spin. It seems like it only makes the noise at the beginning of a spin and as the spin slows down but not in between when it's spinning. I have attached video clip to show the noise. Notice that it happens only on low spin when it is barely spinning....at the beginning and at the end when it slows down. If it’s spinning quickly, it doesn’t seem to make the noise. No error code shown in display. Any idea of what could be the problem? Something got caught or a part is wearing out? Any help is much appreciated. Want to see if it's something easily fixable. We can still run the washer and wash our clothes fine. Please advise as soon as possible. Thanks!

I’m having a similar sound. Did you figure it out ?
No. But the noise comes and goes, so I am not sure what's going on. Last week it was not making the noise at all, so I thought it's gone. But a couple days ago, it did it again.🤷‍♀️ I am wondering - do you do really small loads on your washer at all? Also, may I ask how many years have you had your washer? Please update if you figure what the issue is with yours. Thanks!

I do make really small loads for particular clothing items.

I found out it’s actually the clutch. It’s at the bottom of the washer. It’s not a big deal to change right now but it will get worse overtime and will need to be changed down the road.

While you’re down there changing the clutch it’s also recommended to change the rotor as well.

@liljojogotit - Thanks for sharing that info, appreciate it! How did you figure out it's the clutch? Is it not something we can just tighten or something, does it need to be replaced?

Have you changed yours and is it a big job to change it? Wondering if it is worth to change it or just replace the washer instead down the road. I have my washer for about 15+ years now and it has been great.

We also do a lot of small loads here in between of bigger loads and I wonder if that did somehow contribute to the problem.

I found out it was the clutch by researching on this forum. I found a few threads of people having the same noise as us and people are saying it’s the clutch. Once clutch is replaced sound is gone.

It is normal for the sound to come and go but it will progressively worsen overtime. If you do go with replacing the clutch they reccomend to also replace the rotor which is right next to the clutch.

As far as if it’s a big job or not that depends on your handiness skill level. You need to disconnect the cold and hot water lines, power cable and drain hose because you have to put the washer on its back to get access to the bottom of the wash machine.

It’s pretty simple once you have the washer on its back and access to the bottom of the washer. There’s a few videos on it on YouTube.

Good luck!
