My 1.5 year old LG LMXS30776D french door refrigerator has developed a very loud rattling/buzzing sound coming from inside the rear portion of the Freezer. It starts up a couple times per hour, does it more when the fridge/freezer are being used (open and closed) more and has been slowly getting worse (ie. louder) over the past month. It will stop as soon as you open either the fridge or freezer. I'll post a video of exactly what it sounds like and is happening. It appears to be the Fan that is located inside the back of the Freezer. You can see the fan slow down in sync with the noise and it sounds like it is coming right from it. Can anyone help me find out what I can do and what I need to replace/fix? Thanks so much!

Yes Scott, that's the evaporator fan motor, you'll need to replace it.

1. Remove the freezer drawer.
2. Remove the plastic guide for slides on left side by unscrewing phillips head screws.
3. Remove the grille assembly by removing four screws and pulling the grille assembly forward.
4. Remove the Fan Motor assembly by loosening 3 screws and disassembling the shroud.
5. Pull out the fan and separate the Fan Motor and Bracket Motor.

Here it is for your model you can order:

Let us know how it goes.

Thanks so much Jake for the confirmation of the problem! When I type my model into the Appliance Compatibility Tool it shows that part isn't compatible. Is the tool wrong or is that not the right part for my fridge? I saw part number AP4507961 when I did some more searching, could this be the correct one? Just a little confused, can you verify which is actually going to work for my model (LG LMXS30776)? Thank you so much, I will purchase it from you as soon as I get that confirmation. Thanks!

That tool is not up to date.:)

AP4507961 is their part number they use on their site, AP4507961=OEM manufacturer part number 4681JB1027C but that is NOT for your model.:)

The one I posted above is for your model.:)

So I took your advice for the evap fan motor listed above. Received and wiring harness and there is no yellow wire on the new one.

Jake,
I took your advice. Same model # as listed above. LMXS30776D and one less wire and wire harness is different. New motor does not have a yellow wire. Any suggestions?
Ken

Hi Ken, take a photo of your model number tag and upload it here.

The freezer evaporator fan motor with the yellow wire in it is for this model only: LMXS30776D/02

It's in-stock here:

I’m curious if this issue was resolved. I have this same fridge, and the same issue. The first time it happened (fridge was about 2 years old) we had no idea what it was so we called a repairman. He said the noise was from the fan that blows cold air from the freezer to the ice maker compartment, and that ice builds up on the fan assembly... the noise is the fan blades scraping against the ice. He accessed the fan and defrosted it with a hair dryer (and charged me $115).

This corrected the problem for a couple months, then it started again. Rather than call the repairman again, we just emptied and unplugged the fridge for a couple days. Again, this fixed the problem but only temporarily. We’ve done this every 6-8 weeks for several months now, and are quite tired of it.

This was an expensive fridge and I’m annoyed as hell we have to put up with this. I'm wondering if replacing the fan assembly will actually correct the problem or if it will eventually begin to ice over just like my current one. Is there supposed to be a defroster on the fan to prevent ice buildup?
